I am now on 18 days since my last reboot and no memory lag at all. I added a registry tweak which reduced the size of the dirty cache. Well as it turns out that pause I got for anything that was accessed from the cache, there was other things as well with the same pause and the huge cache caused processing latency as the system was having to search for things in a multiple gig cache. Now apparently this got fixed in windows server 2008 R2 and in windows seven, however in my windows seven I noticed after uptime had accumilated things started slowing down.ĭoes anyone here remember my slow right click problem in IE? There is a hotfix that allows the end user to manipulate the cache behaviour. There is actually a known problem in vista and window server 2008 where the caching grows too much on 64bit systems.

I have installed the FlashBlock Add-on for Firefox and it does help initially but the usage still creeps up over a couple of hours and doesn't return when shut down. If I then shut down Firefox, The CPU usage drops to ~5% but the Memory Usage stays high at ~ 1.76GB. At this point, CPU Usage sits at ~ 60%, peaking at 100% and Memory Usage ~ 2.05GB. I usually use multiple tabs on Firefox usually ~7 Tabs open and I find that the Laptop starts to gt quite hot after a couple of hours of use. When freshly booted, with Windows Mail, Windows Live Messenger and Firefox (Single Tab open), the CPU Usage is < 2% and Memory Usage 1.24GB. I have Vista with all of the updates running on a Core Duo Laptop with 3GB RAM.
